The Chronicle has done a transfer update of sorts this morning and it doesn’t contain any real surprises in it. The cold hard truth is it’s going to be a very underwhelming window after the takeover saga promised such a plethora of world-class players landing at St James Park.

The report by Mark Douglas does firm up some reported interest in players like Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie. However, it seems that Newcastle could be open to selling Dwight Gayle with newly-promoted West Brom possibly making another move for the 29-year-old.

As far as Wilson goes, Douglas suggests that is one that won’t happen anytime soon. With the window closing in October, Newcastle would likely need to talk Bournemouth down on their valuation of the 28-year-old.

Getting in some strikers is paramount this summer so the club don’t want to leave it too late. But unfortunately, that usually is the modus operandi of this regime.

Matty Longstaff’s contract also expired on Friday so he’s no longer a Newcastle United player, which is sad but expected. However, any club that signs him will have to pay a compensation fee.

We did a report yesterday on how retaining Matty should be a priority along with bringing in a striker. The club should forget about Nabil Bentaleb and focus on getting the local lad to agree to a new deal.

We also think bringing Jetro Willems back in will be another positive move this summer. The Newcastle fans need anything to buoy their spirits and getting Matty and Jetro back this summer would at least bring a few smiles to some faces.
