The Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle United officials and players are getting ready for the takeover to be announced.

The latest on that today is the acquisition has passed the owners’ and directors’ tests and the Premier League are said to be ready to announce it on or around June 1st.

That’s a week on Monday

The Sun broke the news last night and it’s really great news for Newcastle fans around the world.

It was six weeks ago yesterday that the papers for the takeover were presented to the Premier League but it’s been slowed down by the Premier League’s Project Restart and the possible piracy of the Premier League games by Saudi station BeoutQ.

But the PL have looked at all of that and have found nothing to stop the deal from being approved.

And concerns voiced  by rival Premier League clubs have been readily dismissed because they wouldn’t want to see another club with the financial resources of Manchester City or Chelsea coming along to challenge for a top-four place every season

And of course, Newcastle have always been a massive club given the wonderful stadium we have, and any club that can attract an average home gate of over 51,000 in the second division is some club indeed.

That club is Newcastle United.

And just think what St. James Park will look like without the Sports Direct signs all over the place.

If you want to take a look at Sir Boby Robson’s first home game as manager at St. James’ Park when we hammered bottom of the league Sheffield Wednesday 8-0 back in September 1999, the stadium is unspoiled.

The pitch looks perfect and notice how quickly the game was played back 21 years ago, very few interruptions, and the free kicks were even taken with a minimum amount of protests.

That’s unlike what happens today and the VAR will only make the game even slower in the future.

The staff at Newcastle including the players are reported to be bracing for the takeover, with the players currently in phase 1 of their training regime as ordered by Project Restart.

With the lads back in training there are still at least 10 games for Newcastle to play.

And with the transfer window coming up there will be lots of news about Newcastle from now on, after a scarcity of it since the Premier League was suspended back on Friday, March 13th.

That’s got to be good.

Here’s Rod Stewart singing that Irving Berlin classic – Blue Skies.
