Newcastle United earned a last-gasp point at the Vitality Stadium as Matt Ritchie scored a stunning injury-time volley in a topsy-turvy encounter on the south coast.

But then Ritchie popped up with a sublime strike deep into stoppage time to deny his former club the victory and move Newcastle on to 35 points following this 2-2 draw.

Rafa Benitez was incensed with the award of the spot-kick, which he felt was soft, and the United manager became all the more frustrated when King looked to have earned the home side all three points as he netted again.

Newcastle were heading for a frustrating defeat before a former Bournemouth player popped up to haunt his former side.

Salomon Rondon had given the Magpies the lead just before half-time with a magnificent free-kick, but AFC Bournemouth’s Josh King levelled the score after the break from the penalty spot.

Yet the quality of the volley he struck to earn Newcastle a point was absolutely outstanding.

Presented with an opportunity 22 yards out, Rondon then stepped up and curled a delicious right-footed free-kick from the left-hand side of the box, which lifted up and over the wall before dipping viciously into the net.
