Steve Bruce has become the first manager to throw his two pence into the ring when it comes to how the Premier League should handle the coronavirus situation.

I actually think Bruce’s idea would be great.

It would be a perfect stimulant for fans who have been robbed of Euro 2020, and the fact it would be a one-off occasion for the Premier League to be played in the summer makes the prospect even more exciting.

“Whatever, however, we will find a way.” Bruce’s comments come on a day when the Premier League have already scrapped their plans to return on April 30, with no football now expected to be played until at least May – or even altogether.

I hope the chiefs in charge take Bruce’s idea on board and use them to come up with a positive solution that doesn’t deprive us fans of more bloody football.

Speaking exclusively to the Telegraph, here’s what he’s had to say – with him pointing at the congested fixture list in the Christmas period as a source of inspiration: “We can have a Festival of Football month, games every day, teams playing two or three games a week,” “It’s not ideal, but if we can play 10 to 15 games in December and the start of January, we can do it to get this season finished.

He suggests we should have a ‘Festival of Football’ over the summer to end the 2019/20 campaign, calling for a match to be played every day and teams to play ‘two or three games a week’ in order to finish the season in good time whenever it’s safe to do so.
