The second round of the Carabao Cup gets under way this week as Newcastle United enter the competition with a home tie against Blackburn Rovers.

In the first five rounds, any games ending in a draw after 90 minutes will go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

Extra time will be be played in the semi-finals and final should the game finish level.

When the Premier League and Championship restarted earlier this summer, clubs were permitted to use five substitutes from a bench of nine.

The semi-finals will be played over one leg at the ground of the side drawn out first.

Should a semi-final or the final go to extra time, teams will be permitted a fourth substitute.

Most clubs were keen to avoid energy-sapping extra time, especially with so many games to be played in such a short space of time.
