Isaac Hayden is one of the key players the club are looking to tie down to a new long-term contract, according to the Chronicle’s Mark Douglas.

Douglas states that the club have ‘worked hard’ to keep hold of hims over the summer and also reveals that he’s now more settled – suggesting personal problems have cleared up somewhat.

With both that and his impressive performances on the pitch in mind, it’s claimed a long-term contract could be on the table for the 24-year-old – something which seemed so unlikely when he looked resigned to leaving just a few months ago.

It’s been a tough few months for us Newcastle fans, but keeping Isaac Hayden has been one of the big positives.

A recent interview with NUFC TV saw him suggest that personal problems had improved and things had been worked out between himself and his partner, so now feels like the perfect time to offer him a thoroughly deserved new deal.

With him battling personal issues with his fiancee and daughter living 300 miles away, he handed in a transfer request last summer and looked certain to leave once the right offer arrived for both him and the club, however he never let off-field problems impact his performances on the pitch.

He never kicked up a fuss and covered as much ground as any Newcastle player over the second half of last season, with him being arguably our best and most consistent performer of 2019.
