Former Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce believes Steve Bruce will be happy with the collapse of the club's expected sale.

Allardyce believes the Saudi withdrawal now allows the current head coach to concentrate on preparing for his second season in charge.

Allardyce told talkSPORT: “I know Newcastle fans will be bitterly disappointed for the length of time it's taken… but I think he [Bruce] will be glad of the clarity and will be glad of the decision.

“If the takeover had gone through I don't know if he had any previous talks with the new owners to say whether his position was safe or not, or if they wanted to come in and pick their own man.

“That's often the case and sometimes it happens, it happened to me and other managers in the past.

“Obviously he will be happy with the clarity that he can now push on with the transfer budget, whatever that might be with Mike now, and try and improve the team.

“And he has to jump straight into it, there can be no hesitation now because they're starting the Premier League again on September 16, there is not a lot of time to do business.

“So Steve will be able to move as quickly as he needs to now and try and strengthen the squad at Newcastle."
