Except it wasn't a player, manager or ref - instead it was BT Sport commentator Chris Sutton.

Viewers took to Twitter in their droves to slam the ex-Chelsea man who was accused of having an agenda against the club.

At one point Sutton mistook Eden Hazard for being the 'vocal point' - and not the 'focal point', as he presumably meant - while when Willian put Chelsea 2-1 up he labelled him 'Willian the Conqueror'.

"Chris Sutton needs to get in the bin... please get ridd" fumed one while another said: "Chris Sutton is an awful co-commentator."

After the Willian goal, Sutton claimed Chelsea must keep the Brazilian if they want to win silverware - a comment in itself that irked fans.

"Chris Sutton thinks we need willian to win trophies man i think that’s the first important goal he’s scored for us since he’s been here," noted one.

"'if chelsea want to win trophies they need to keep hold of big players like willian' does chris sutton actually watch football or just say whatever pops into his head?? what a clown," ranted another.

While one said: "Chris Sutton just said Willian the conqueror and it has absolutely ruined my weekend."

While one frustrated fan vented: "I love listening to Chris Sutton’s commentary, said no f**ker ever."

Sutton this morning revealed how his family were left upset and hurt after he was sent a death threat following the Old Firm derby.

In an emotional interview with Robbie Savage, Sutton revealed how a death threat was sent to a Scottish newspaper following comments about the Rangers game.

Savage explained on his show: "It was Rangers vs Celtic, the big Old Firm derby, and Chris received a death threat.

"Just before we get to that Chris, let's talk about how it came about, how it happened.

"Your punditry is provocative, opinionated, passionate... you say what you think - and you're not going to change."

Sutton clasped his hands as he vowed: "No, I'm not going to change in that respect.

"We talk about football, don't we? I love football north of the border and south of the border and people have strong opinions.

"When we sit on the sofa and talk on the shows we do, we engage but there is a line of course.

"A death threat is too far. It's more upsetting for the family and a little bit unsettling.

"In terms of going forward, we can't let these mindless morons stop us saying what we want to say.

"Most of the stuff I say is constructive, we do a lot of prep and we are getting to the age where everybody seems offended by absolutely anything."
