A new report has set out the scale of the financial crisis that faces Premier League clubs over the postponement of the season.

Vysyble are expecting record economic losses from accounts across Premier League clubs.

“However, our data indicates that the 2018-19 season accounts will produce record (economic) losses for the Premier League clubs and a continuation of heavy losses for those in the Championship.

“A financial hit from COVID-19-related restrictions on top of last year’s poor financial performance will undoubtedly hurt.

Fifteen of the 26 Premier League and Sky Bet Championship clubs to have released full 2018-19 accounts have staff cost to revenue ratios in excess of UEFA’s safe limit of 70%.

Figures released by business performance analysts Vysyble claim the estimated season cost for staff bills for the 20 clubs in the English top flight will come to £3.56billion.

Some very difficult decisions will have to be made in the coming days from the top of the English football pyramid down unless there is an available and comprehensive financial lifeline.”
