Former Argentina Star Claims Newcastle Have Made Offer To His Compatriot

Late Friday, former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke about his desire to find a suitable project to get back into managing.

The Argentine talked about how his batteries have been recharged after six months away. This past week he passed the six-month mark since he left Spurs, thus leaving him free to join any club without having to pay back compensation.

However, Pocchetino is in no rush as he waits for what he describes as the ‘perfect project.’ The 48-year-old should have his share of enticing offers once the top leagues get their current campaigns completed this summer.

In an interview in theMirror, former Tottenham midfielder Ossie Ardiles made some interesting claims about his compatriot and friend.

This is what the Ardiles revealed about Pochettino:

“Mauricio is fine in England. He is linked with Newcastle United and when he spoke directly to that club, there were many first-rate people involved who made him a good offer.

“Mauricio had a (contractual) relationship with Tottenham, but last Tuesday his situation was unlocked and he is free to coach.

“In this way, he will hear offers again, but Newcastle is a firm possibility to work again.

“He will take his time to think and wait a little for all this to happen.

“Mauricio is an absolutely top-level technician. He is one of the three best technicians in the world.

“He can manage wherever he wants. Here, or in Spain, in France or Italy. But he really likes managing in England.

“There are a few very large teams that can appoint him – and one of them is going to be chosen.”

According to the former Argentina international, who spent a decade at Tottenham, Newcastle have already approached Pochettino and made him an offer.

Ardiles is reportedly close to Pochettino, so this is an intriguing revelation. It could be that Newcastle’s prospective owners have sounded out Pochettino for a move this summer.

We’d be surprised if anything happened before this season is finished. Most local journalists believe Steve Bruce will see out this campaign for continuity’s sake.

However, Steve Bruce has admitted he knows very little about the takeover and hasn’t had any contact with the Amanda Staveley-led consortium.
