Former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye is available on a free transfer this month after leaving UAE club Al Nasr.

In a tweet, Al Nasr said: “Al Nasr dispense with the services of the Cabaye, Rosa and Marquinhos and thanks the three players for the period when they wore the club’s shirt."

Cabaye only joined Al Nasr in the summer on a two-year deal but it was announced on Sunday that they have paid an 'immediate farewell' to the French international.

Al Nasr have just appointed Spanish coach Benat San Jose after making a poor start to the Emirati season and he was one of three foreign stars to surprisingly be let go by the club.

The former Lille midfielder was an integral part of the Newcastle side that just missed out on Champions League qualification in 2011/12 before reaching the Europa League quarter-finals in the following season.

Newcastle currently have Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame on the sidelines in midfield and a short-term deal for Cabaye wouldn't be the worst option in the world.

But given Newcastle's policy of signing players who would represent some sort of sell-on value, as well as Cabaye's expected wage demands, it would be an unlikely deal this month.
