For nearly a quarter of a century, the former Manchester United skipper has made the pilgrimage to St James' Park as both a player and a pundit.

Neville, Bruce's former team-mate, wants to see a Newcastle United side that plays on the front foot again.

Neville has tasted some sweet moments - a 6-2 win in 2003 -  and some humbling ones - that missed tackle on David Ginola during a 5-0 defeat seven years' previously  -  but he always looks back fondly on two teams going toe to toe in front of a raucous crowd.

Few Mancunians appreciate the roar of the Gallowgate quite like Gary Neville .

You only had to look at the noise for the final home game of last season, against Liverpool, to realise what a special atmosphere Newcastle United fans can generate at St James' Park.

"To me, I'm not knocking Rafa Benitez - I think he is a brilliant manager - but I think Newcastle, when I go up there, it should just be mad," he said.

In Neville's eyes, despite Rafa Benitez's popularity, the Spaniard's 'boring' style of football did not represent what Newcastle, the club and city, stand for.
