That was a smiling Steve Bruce's response to reporters as he addressed the debut of 20-year-old Tom Allan.

"It's every little lads dream growing up to make the step-up to the first team.

“I’m delighted for the kid from Cramlington.

Allan was one of four Geordies on the pitch as the final whistle blew, and for Corbridge-born Bruce it was pleasing to see so many local lads playing for Newcastle United.

Allan had come on in the Third Round FA Cup Replay against Rochdale just before the hour mark and after a nervous start grew into the game - finishing with an assist for Joelinton's first competitive goal at St James' Park.

"In the end we had four Geordies on the pitch with him, the Longstaffs and Andy Carroll so it’s great.

Speaking to NUFC TV afterwards, Allan said admitted he was a little taken aback after making his debut.
