Captain Jamaal Lascelles has described Newcastle United’s next three fixtures as “crucial” in the context of the Magpies’ season as a whole.

Rafa Benitez’s side host Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park on Sunday, before travelling to Huddersfield Town the following Saturday, and then welcoming Fulham to St James’ Park over the pre-Christmas weekend.

It just shows the character in the team,” Lascelles said.

Each of those matches appear eminently winnable and, with Newcastle having bounced back from a 3-0 humbling at home to West Ham United by securing an uplifting point at Everton on Wednesday, the Magpies can head into the Wolves game with renewed optimism.

There's immense disappointment from what happened last weekend,” Lascelles continued.

The 1-1 draw at Goodison Park was built upon Newcastle’s solid defensive foundations – the Magpies were back to their compact best, following a freak performance against the Hammers – and skipper Lascelles praised his side’s character after they picked up a point on Merseyside.

But, such is the frantic pace at which games arrive during the festive period, Lascelles’ attentions have already turned to Sunday’s clash against Wolves on Tyneside.
