Jamie Reuben has vowed to keep on supporting the Newcastle West End Foodbank after it emerged his family's business financially backed the charity during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Chronicle Live revealed that the Reubens had made substantial weekly donations to the charity - which also runs a drop off point outside of St James' Park on match-days.

The total value of donations amounted £36,000 over a six week period, and while those at the foodbank took to social media to show gratitude to Jamie and his family, the 33-year-old rejected the thanks and instead praised the efforts of the charity.

The foodbank labelled the donations as 'invaluable' and noted that 'thousands of people in the community' benefited from the help but Jamie insisted: "No need to thank me!- you guys are the ones providing invaluable support to those most at need during these difficult times - we will always support the local community in the great city of Newcastle."

The Reuben business owns Newcastle racecourse as well as other ventures in the city - and were set to have a stake in Newcastle United should the Saud backed takeover of the club gone through.

As the takeover was called off - a joint statement released by the group which also included Amanda Staveley - noted the intentions to work and support the community.
