However, Barton was informed that the allegations were too serious for a magistrates court and instead the case is being sent to crown court.

The former Newcastle United midfielder was at Barnsley Magistrates Court, in relation to an incident that happened in April.

The Fleetwood manager given unconditional bail and he has been told to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on November 6 for a hearing.

The Fleetwood Town boss alleged to have pushed the then Barnsley manager, Daniel Stendel, after the game, causing damage to a tooth.

As an interesting aside, Daniel Stendel was sacked by Barnsley on Tuesday and is already attracting interest.

Whilst off the pitch he has these issues to deal with, Joey Barton is doing a remarkably good job on the pitch.

Amongst those keen on Stendel are Sunderland, with owner Stewart Donald admitting his interest in the now out of work German manager, with Donald having sacked Jack Ross yesterday.
