Miguel Almiron is being backed to be a big Premier League hit with Newcastle after getting clattered on his debut — and getting up again smiling.

As well as bringing his silky South American skills, Almiron showed grit, desire and tenacity to get stuck straight into Newcastle’s relegation fight.

Paraguay international Almiron came off the bench on 72 minutes in the 1-1 draw at Wolves.

Toon goal-scorer Isaac Hayden says the visitors were all impressed by the shift put in by their club-record £21million buy from new Major League Soccer champions Atlanta United — especially when Almiron grinned after being taken out by Joao Moutinho just five minutes into his first appearance for the club.

But the 25-year-old, who had 13 goals and 11 assists last season as Atlanta won the MLS title, showed enough to suggest he can provide some much-needed creativity.

Midfielder Hayden said: “He has been top drawer, especially coming from a foreign country and MLS, which is a completely different level.

The players can get around him and cause damage.” Almiron and the rest of Newcastle’s squad have jetted off on a sunshine break to Spain before hosting Huddersfield on Saturday February 23.
