Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has broken his promise to pay for the club’s players to visit Las Vegas if they avoided relegation from the Premier League.

The Magpies ended up staying in England’s top-flight rather comfortably, with yesterday’s 4-0 win away to Fulham on the final day of the season enough to secure a finish in 13th place.

However, the Newcastle Chronicle reports that Ashley had promised to cough-up for the entire squad to make the trip to the US during a difficult start to the campaign, which saw United sitting bottom of the table at one point.

But it seems there will be no visit to Nevada, after Ashley decided to cancel the trip, with the players instead being paid their season bonuses in advance of June.

Regardless, it’s thought that Ashley still managed to save himself a pretty penny by deciding against making the gesture to his players, who will now jet off on their own holidays until the start of pre-season in June.

What do you think of Ashley’s decision to renege on his promise of paying to take the Newcastle players to Vegas?
