Mike Ashley Tells Henry Mauriss And His Associates To Put Up Or Shut Up

Remember hat it’s a Sunday so there’s bound to be news on the (some) Newcastle takeover.

And good to form there’s a report in the Mirror today that the Mike Ashley and Henry Mauriss’ teams have spoken about a potential takeover of the club, following the collapse of the Saudi financed Amanda Staveley led deal.

The Mirror are reporting that Henry Mauriss is keen to do a deal to buy Newcastle.

First of all, here is a piece on Mauriss in the Sun from mid-June with information about him – he is not a fictional character.

It was one of the sources we referenced in our article about Mauriss yesterday.

The Mirror piece today says that Mauriss has the funds to buy Newcastle, and it seems Mike Ashley is playing hard-ball with Mauriss, and so he should.

He will give the Californian (shown above in the top left-hand corner) until August 14th to lodge a bid for the club.

Ashley will do nothing until he has evidence, concrete evidence, that the Californian has the funds – £350M – to buy Newcastle, and then how much more would he be willing to invest in Newcastle.

Ashley even seems to be doing something for the club in trying to get some certainty on who will be the owner for next season, and hopefully, he doesn’t want to be that person.

We fervently hope that’s the case.

We’ve heard a lot about Mauriss since June, and his sources have said he wants to build up Newcastle like FSG built up Liverpool to their past glories, after they bought the famous Merseyside club for 300M in October 2011.

Mike Ashley is essentially telling Henry Mauriss to put up or shut up, and that’s a good move for the club.

Should Ashley and Mauriss get that far, the bid would then be subject to Premier League ratification.

If the two sides can reach an agreement in the next 10 days or so then presumably Mauirss is ready to deliver the takeover papars to the Premier League for their approval.

But that’s a big ask and we don’t want to rush into a deal that leaves us with another owner with the same ambitions as Ashley – that would really help crush the club, all over again.

It would be like jumping out of the fire and into the frying pan – so to speak.

We can only hope Mauriss is viable – but we will know within a couple of weeks.
