Manchester City's assistant manager Mikel Arteta has revealed why he chose to remain at the Etihad Stadium this summer amid interest from Newcastle in making the Spaniard the club's new manager.

And speaking to SER Catalunya, Arteta has explained why he ignored interest from firstly Arsenal and secondly Newcastle.



Arteta was one of the names considered to replace Rafa Benitez as Newcastle manager after he left the club at the conclusion of his contract in July.



But after seeking advice from his compatriot, Benitez - who is believed to have warned Arteta off the job - the 37-year-old opted to remain as Pep Guardiola's assistant at Eastlands.
