Newcastle United's projected takeover may be off but that hasn't stopped the transfer rumour mill from going round.

The Magpies' managing director Lee Charnley insisted the Magpies will support Steve Bruce in the summer transfer market after PCP Capital Partners, the Reuben brothers and the Saudi Public Investment Fund pulled out of the takeover of the club.

As such, Bruce is keen to bring in a new forward to the club and the Magpies have been linked with an England international forward.

They are also keen to add a left-back to their ranks and they have been linked with a Sassuolo defender this morning.

Meanwhile, a reported transfer target has committed his future to his current club.

Here's a round-up of the latest Newcastle United transfer gossip.

According to the Mail Online, Newcastle have asked about the availability of Sassuolo left-back Rogerio.

The 22-year-old is said to be among the Magpies' top targets after the end of Danny Rose's loan spell.

United are keen to sign Rose permanently but the Brazilian, who joined Sassuolo from Serie A champions Juventus, has emerged as an alternative.

However, the collapse of the takeover may mean Newcastle can't match Sassuolo's demands given Rogerio still has three years on his contract at the Marpei Stadium.

As reported in Chronicle Live this morning, Newcastle want to bring in another striker this close season but their resolve to keep hold of Dwight Gayle is set to be tested.

The Magpies have Callum Wilson on their wishlist and he would represent a real upgrade for Steve Bruce's squad.

But with budget uncertainty and the market being so volatile in the COVID age, it's not anticipated a quick move for the Cherries man would be made. The transfer deadline is not until October this year.

United - who have held detailed recruitment meetings while the takeover played out in the background - know goals were their biggest problem last season and will look to address that. But they also have decisions to make on several players coming near to the end of their contract.

Premier League newcomers West Brom may re-ignite interest in Gayle, who has 12 months left on the beefed up deal he signed when the Baggies loaned him in the transfer that saw Salomon Rondon move the other way.

Newcastle had been linked with a summer move for Sheffield United defender Chris Basham but he committed his future to the Blades yesterday.

Basham, who was released by Newcastle as a teenager, penned a new deal until the summer of 2022 at Bramall Lane amid reported interest in the 32-year-old from United and Burnley.

"I'm delighted the deal has been agreed and signed off. I'm looking forward to the future, working with the manager and helping pushing the club on further," Basham told Sheffield United's official website.

"We're all striving for the same thing, starting with the manager and throughout the club, we all have the same ambitions and same goals.

"There is a genuine togetherness within the group and obviously that makes you want to remain part of this journey, we certainly think there is much more to come.

"The club has backed us since day one and that has continued throughout our rise to the Premier League, now we are here we want to improve further and that is the focus ahead of returning for pre-season later this month."
