Newcastle United's under-23s preserved their bragging rights over Sunderland in a Valentine's Day derby which proved no love was lost between the sides.

Goals from Thomas Allan and Yannick Toure in either half ensured Ben Dawson's side claimed all three points in their Premier League 2 clash on Friday night.

The Valentine's Day encounter was then given a feisty end perhaps more befitting a traditional Tyne-Wear derby.

Sorensen reacted angrily to a heavy challenge from Sunderland captain Bainbridge, and both were dismissed after their clash started a brawl.

But the Tyne-Wear showdown saw both sides finish with 10 men as an ugly off the ball clash saw Elias Sorensen and Jack Bainbridge given straight red cards.

Chances then followed in quick succession for United to add to a third, with Toure, Sorensen, and Allan all spurning opportunities to add gloss to the scoreline.

Hull City's Tyler Hamilton lined up on the opposite wing, with Reading's Tyler Frost partnering Joe Hugill up front.
