Joelinton will be fit to play for Newcastle United against Arsenal and Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto have trained ahead of the game at the Emirates - but Andy Carroll and Jonjo Shelvey remain sidelined.

The Newcastle head coach had previously hoped Carroll would be in contention after the winter break but the 31-year-old remains sidelined with a hip injury.

"Thankfully it's not his ankle but this hip come hip flezxor.

Muto has not played since coming off with a hip injury at Rochdale last month while Gayle suffered a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw against Wolves a few weeks ago.

Joelinton had to come off just a few minutes after doubling the Magpies' lead against Oxford United last week after injuring his rib earlier in the half but it was just a knock.

Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring), Javier Manquillo (hamstring) and Emil Krafth (ankle) remain sidelined while Paul Dummett (knee) looks set to miss the rest of the season.

"Well, we're just going to assess whether it's a little bit early for Muto and Dwight but they're training, of course," the Newcastle head coach told reporters at his pre-match press conference.
