Wolves fans haven’t been impressed after one Newcastle star spoke out after Monday night’s match.

The home side grabbing that late draw due to the controversial goal scored by Willy Boly.

Despite Newcastle only getting one point off Wolves this season, Isaac Hayden says he doesn’t think the recently promoted team look anything special.

The Newcastle midfielder declaring: ‘If I am being brutally honest, I am struggling to see why Wolves are seventh.’

The reality of course is that to be the best of the rest, you don’t need to be anything special.

It is about very small margins, turning defeats into draws and draws into wins.

Wolves have now gained an extra three points just from the games against Newcastle, thanks to last-minute goals.

Last season, Burnley actually finished seventh despite conceding more goals than they scored, a goal difference of minus three as they managed only 36 goals and let in 39.

Wolves are following a similar path, only six clubs above them but having scored only 34 and conceding 33, not quite as extreme as Burnley but those figures massively helped by scoring 10 goals in the three games before Newcastle on Monday, having scored only 21 goals in the first 22.

The reality of the Premier League table is that despite Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all having their problems this season, seventh placed Wolves are 11 points off sixth place and 21 points adrift of the top three. Meanwhile they are only 12 points clear of Palace, Brighton and Burnley who are all heavily involved in the relegation battle.

As for Isaac Hayden, credit to him that despite being desperate to get a move away from Newcastle, he has put together a decent run of form after injuries forced Rafa Benitez to turn to him, Hayden playing these last eight Premier League matches.

Isaac Hayden:

“If I am being brutally honest, I am struggling to see why Wolves are seventh.

“We have given them two good games this season, one at home and one away.

“We have come out of them both thinking we deserve a lot more from both of them.

“But the table doesn’t lie, they have done well against other good teams, so they deserve to be where they are, but it is disappointing really.

The up to date Premier League table:

“We said before the game we need to think about the Wolves game last time when they nicked a result in the last minute and they have done it again.

“It is one of those frustrating things. They are not a bogey team but we have played them twice and played really well both times and just for some reasons that last ounce of concentration wasn’t there.

“But we can’t fault the effort or performance away from home. They are seventh and the table doesn’t lie.

After not getting the transfer he wanted in January:

“When you are playing games of football it is so much easier to get through the period because all you are doing is focusing on the next game or training.

“It didn’t really bother me that much and as soon as you cross the white line it doesn’t matter.

“It was more difficult maybe off the pitch because there were loads of things flying around and conversations being had between the manager and other people and the club and other clubs.

“But as a player as soon as you cross the white line it is all about playing so you forget about anything else

“Everyone is going to have their opinions on certain things but I am one of those people who wear their heart on their sleeve and are always honest.

“I am not going to hold emotions in, if some people don’t like it, they don’t like it, if they like it then fair enough.

“I don’t think anyone can look at the effort in the last few games and say I haven’t been committed or given everything to the cause. I have tried my best.

“There are some games I am going to play badly, some games where I am going to play good.”
