Newcastle United are ready to consider £15million bids for Dwight Gayle in the January transfer window, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Magpies will only consider an exit for the 29-year-old should any bids reach their valuation or higher from a number of interested clubs in the Championship.

The Telegraph reports that Steve Bruce does not want to lose Gayle in January, and is hoping that the asking price will too high for clubs outside of the Premier League.

It is suggested that West Brom, Nottingham Forest, Stoke City, and Leeds United are all interested in a January move, but Bruce is not tempted by a loan exit.

OPINION

It seems strange that Bruce has set an asking price in January for Gayle despite being keen to hold onto the 29-year-old. With a number of Championship clubs lining up to try and secure a move over the winter period, it would be no surprise to see him make a move in the search for more consistent playing time during the second half of the season. Newcastle aren’t afraid to sell the striker, having accepted an offer from Stoke in the summer only to see it collapse over the wages. That being said, not many Championship clubs will be able to pay £15million and then sanction Gayle’s big-money wages. Bruce and Newcastle have set the price to scare off other clubs from making a move for the forward, but if they don’t want to lose him, they need to start giving him more time on the pitch – especially after yet another disappointing performance from Joelinton in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City.
