Newcastle’s £300m takeover has progressed to the final stages of the Premier League's owner's and director's test, and is now on course to be announced in the coming week. The takeover, which will see Mike Ashley finally ousted as Newcastle owner, has been bubbling away for weeks as talks continue to get it over the line.

And, according to the Chronicle, the deal is close to being finalised by the Premier League.

They report that the tests from the Premier League have not encountered ‘any red flags’.

The deal will put Newcastle among the wealthiest clubs in world football and has already seen them linked with a handful of new signings and managers.

Steve Bruce and his players have returned to training this week having undertaken their initial COVID-19 test last weekend.

Premier League players are undergoing a second test today following the phase one training restart.

And all being well the next step into contact training could begin on June 1 before the resumption of the football season later in June.

Premier League lockdown survey: Should football return despite coronavirus? VOTE now

The Bundesliga in Germany got back underway last weekend and has provided the Premier League with an example of how to get things done.

And despite the many barriers still to overcome a return is now on course following the coronavirus pandemic.

But when they do return to proper action Newcastle could have new owners in place.

Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud will become the majority owner in the £300m deal, with Amanda Stavely and the Rueben brothers involved in the set up.

Mauricio Pochettino appears to be the front-runner to replace Bruce as manager, while players like Gareth Bale have been linked.

“Newcastle should receive a big money injection this summer with a new owner coming to town and this could be a great destination for Gareth Bale, as he could reassume his superstar status at the club and keep earning a big amount of money,” Betfair ambassador Rivaldo said.

“It would be a great chance for him to prove he is still a top-class player and be considered again one of the best in the world, so if this offer really comes, I think he should accept it.

“At Newcastle, he would be the biggest star of the team and could lead a rejuvenated squad to a good Premier League campaign.”
