Nobby Solano reflects on the Champions League days under Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle

Former Newcastle United star Nobby Solano has reflected on the 'great times' he spent with the Magpies playing under Sir Bobby Robson.

Newcastle reached an FA Cup and UEFA Cup semi-final under Robson and underpinned in that was the connection Solano struck up with the club's record goalscorer Alan Shearer.

Solano spent seven-and-a-half years at St James' Park across two seasons and was part of Robson's side that qualified for the Champions League on two occasions.

“I was very lucky that we had some great times at Newcastle with Sir Bobby Robson – god bless him," Solano told Planet Football.

Shearer was often the beneficiary of Solano's deadly deliveries from out wide and he has spoken about how much he enjoyed playing with Shearer and working under former England and Barcelona manager, Robson.

He helped United reach the FA Cup final in 1999 under Ruud Gullit but it was under Robson that he enjoyed the most success.
