Manchester United remain interested in Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to ESPN.

The sports broadcaster claim on their website that despite the Red Devils being put off by the 21-year-old’s £50million price tag this summer, they are set to revisit a potential move for him after this season.

ESPN report that Manchester United are set to make a central-midfield player their top priority after deciding against making a move for Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes.

Newcastle have been reported by the Daily Mail to be keen on offering new deals for many of their key players, with Longstaff amongst the names set for talks.

It all adds up as to why Newcastle are keen to tie many of their key players down to new deals. After the departure of Rafael Benitez this summer, the air of uncertainty that surrounded the club most likely led to other clubs believing they could force through cheaper deals for some of the Magpies’ best players. Longstaff definitely made a name for himself when bursting onto the scene last season, but the young midfielder only managed to make eight consecutive starts – experience that doesn’t exactly warrant his suggested £50million pricetag. It was most likely used a way to deter Man United from making another offer for the enforcer, and it seemed to have worked for the summer at least. Another good season under Bruce and Newcastle would be well within their rights to increase their asking price – with the Premier League giants surely not willing to pay more than the reported £50million.
