What’s more, Mourinho has Eric Dier, who the Portuguese wanted while he was managing Manchester United before eventually reuniting with Matic.

The MEN does claim, however, that despite the likelihood of Matic leaving to Tottenham looking more unlikely, United are willing to let the Serbian leave if another club in January if another club comes in with a decent offer.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho believes he is well-stocked in midfield with the likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele and Victor Wanyama available to Mourinho.

Earlier claims had suggested that United were prepared to offer Matic – who is out of favour at Old Trafford – as a makeweight in a deal to sign Christian Eriksen.
