Jose Mourinho's return to the Premier League has been welcomed by Steve Bruce - and the pair's friendly relationship could yet benefit Newcastle United in the long run.

There is a longstanding trust established between the two managers when it comes to Mourinho loaning players to Bruce's clubs.

Not only did Mourinho allow Sam Johnstone and Axel Tuanzebe to join Aston Villa on short-term loan deals during his time as Manchester United manager, he also signed off on further season-long loan deals so they could return to Villa Park.

Newcastle United will certainly be well-represented on-screen when the Magpies make their Amazon Prime Video debut against Sheffield United on Thursday night.

But, equally, Bruce has not necessarily been one for wholesale changes this season and has settled upon a formation and set-up since the 1-0 win against Manchester United back in October.

Between December 3 and December 27, Amazon will be showing 20 live Premier League games.

All the while, Mourinho was in regular contact with Bruce - the former Villa boss even paid the Portuguese a personal visit in Manchester -  to see how they were getting on and those loan spells proved crucial to Johnstone and Tuanzebe's development.
