Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed Sergio Aguero will not be fit to face Manchester United at the Etihad on Saturday.

It’s a blow for the defending Premier League champions, who suffered a massive blow in their bid to make up ground on runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Aguero is currently Man City’s top scoring Premier League player with nine goals and his absence comes at a terrible time.

The Argentine hobbled off with a muscle problem during the 2-1 victory over Chelsea two weeks ago and won’t return until after the Manchester derby, which is live on GameDay on talkSPORT.

But Guardiola is expecting a tough night at Burnley and explained why he has not selected Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones together in defence during recent matches.

A disappointing 2-2 draw at Newcastle at the weekend saw the gap extend to 11 points, with Guardiola’s men now facing season-defining week in the league.

They travel to Burnley on Tuesday night before the visit of their neighbours on Saturday, and they will be without star striker Aguero for both matches.
