Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has paid tribute to "ultimate winner" Steve Bruce as he prepares to face his Newcastle side on Thursday evening.

"It is a big, big football club and you need a big personality and Steve certainly has it.

The 52-year-old played under Bruce at Sheffield United and has undertaken a long road to the Premier League during his own management career.

But Sheffield United have not lost any of their last seven Premier League games and Wilder has won plaudits for the style of football his side have been playing - particularly the innovative use of overlapping centre-halves.

Bruce brings his Magpies side to South Yorkshire knowing a win will take them level on points with the in-form Blades.

"I have talked long and hard about the importance of the LMA (League Managers Association) and Steve has been there for a lot of us young managers," Wilder said.

And when asked about his relationship with Bruce, he paid testament to the character of the Magpies boss.
