Danny Mills has admitted that he has not been impressed with one member of Newcastle United’s squad after four games this season.

The Sky Sports pundit shared the damning verdict when highlighting there is a lack of quality running through the Magpies’ side under Steve Bruce.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills questioned whether Newcastle would be able to consistently recreate performances like the one that saw them win at Tottenham.

“No, no. I worry for them, I worry for Newcastle,” he said.

“I look around and I know they had the good win but where are these performances going to come from week in, week out.”

“Where are the goals going to come from? I think it’s going to be another long, hard, tough season for them.”

Newcastle lost their opening two fixtures of the season quite convincingly against Arsenal and Norwich City but finished before the international break with a respectable four points after victory against Spurs, and a draw against Watford.

For Mills to come out and suggest that Newcastle are already in trouble seems a little premature for this season. There is no doubting the fact that the Magpies were very disappointing in their opening two fixtures, but the two games after that certainly proved that they have what it takes in the Premier League. If Bruce would have managed to have guided his team to a deserving three points against Watford, then questions would not likely have appeared at this early stage. Goals are a concern, but if they keep creating chances it is only a matter of time before Joelinton and his fellow attacking players start putting them away, and Bruce will have faith in his attacking line up to prove pundits and fans alike wrong. Newcastle are currently averaging 10.5 shots per game according to WhoScored with an average possession of only 40.5%, those are the two stats that will need to improve, and if they do, the Magpies will be far from danger come the end of the season.
