It's time for Newcastle United fans to finally crack open the cans and celebrate the takeover.

That's according to former Magpies striker Michael Chopra, who believes the deal ending Mike Ashley's turbulent tenure on Tyneside has been completed.

United club officials are braced for a conclusion to the latest takeover saga which has now rumbled on for months, as ChronicleLive reported this morning.

Sources with the Premier League have advised an announcement will be made by either the club or the incoming owners, after no red flags were found with the organisation's owner's and director's test.

Several reports have indicated the deal has been approved, with confirmation expected next week.

These latest developments have led to numerous United fans on social media speculating as to whether the takeover is already completed - and whether it is time to crack open the cans.

There have been numerous false dawns with the latest takeover saga since the news broke that a price had been agreed between Ashley and the consortium fronted by financier Amanda Staveley.

But according to former United and Sunderland striker Chopra, now is the time to celebrate as he claims the takeover has been completed.

Responding to a fan on social media who believed the deal must be close, Chopra wrote: "It's done mate get the cans out."

The post inevitably attracted a host of responses from United supporters - with many celebrating the update, and others still remaining cautious before any official announcement.
